Caramel-Bottom French Toast Bake

Plan Ahead Note: This recipe requires an overnight rest in the refrigerator (at least 5 hours) for the best results.

Ingredients

For the Caramel Base:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

  • 1 ½ cups packed dark brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Egg Mixture:

  • 4 large eggs

  • 2 cups milk

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the French Toast:

  • 1 large loaf French bread, cut into 1 ½-inch thick slices

For the Cinnamon Topping:

  • ¼ cup butter, melted

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For Serving:

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
