Sausage Cream Cheese Crescent Rolls

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  2. Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until it’s fully browned and no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease.

  3. Create the Filling: Reduce the heat to low. Add the softened cream cheese to the warm sausage in the skillet. Stir continuously until the cream cheese is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and well-combined. Remove from heat.

  4. Form the Base: Unroll one can of crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, sealing any perforations to create a solid crust.

  5. Add the Filling: Spread the sausage and cream cheese mixture evenly over the crescent roll base.

  6. Add the Top Crust: Unroll the second can of crescent roll dough and carefully place it over the sausage layer to form the top crust.

  7. Bake to Perfection: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is puffed up and a beautiful golden brown.

  8. Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for about 5 minutes before slicing it into squares. Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips & Variations

  • Soften Your Cream Cheese: Letting the cream cheese sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before starting will make it much easier to blend smoothly with the sausage.

  • Add Some Flair: Feel free to mix in a handful of shredded cheddar cheese, some chopped green onions, or a dash of your favorite seasoning (like garlic powder or a pinch of red pepper flakes) into the filling for extra flavor.

  • Make-Ahead: You can assemble the casserole ahead of time, cover it, and refrigerate it for a few hours before baking. You may need to add 2-3 extra minutes to the baking time if it goes into the oven cold.
