Ingredients

For the Filling:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 lb (450g) minced meat (beef, lamb, or a mix work best)

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

For Assembly:

  • 1 package (approx. 17.3 oz or 490g) frozen puff pastry sheets (2 sheets), thawed according to package instructions

  • 1 cup (about 100g) shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a Mexican blend are great)

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
